Tuxedos Ain't Just For The Gents

Janelle Monae Tip Toeing in Style

Let's face it, dresses aren't always everyone's thang.  I know several ladies that would rather be in pants at any time of the day.  When it comes to a formal occasion, it can be challenging for these gals to find something stylish that still feels like "them".  In comes the tuxedo....  A few years ago, this was my sister's dilemma.  My twin wore a tuxedo to my wedding and looked totally fabulous.

Since then it has become such a fabulous trend among celebrities!  Whether it's a Met Gala or a Saturday night out, Female Tuxedos are all the rage these days.  Check out some of these amazing looks from some seriously stylish stars.

I love how chic a tuxedo can look when tailored correctly.  Also, by added some blingy accessories it can still feel feminine and flirty.  I trick to pulling this look off is SELF CONFIDENCE.  Below are two different ways to style a tuxedo.  I love this idea for a bridesmaid, a party guest or even a daring bride.

Collar, Tuxedo, Chiffon Tie, Gold Capped Shoes, Striped Heels

Also, I must give credit where credit is due.  As I was writing this post I was inspired by something other than celebrities and my amazing sister.  I was also totally inspired by Lola, my boston terrier puppy who is ALWAYS wearing a tuxedo with class.  Today this pup turns one.  What better birthday present than a blog post about tuxedos!

Art Deco Love and a Guest Post

When I was a costume designer I was always asked “Melanie, what is your favorite era to design in?”.  This is always a tricky question since there have been some really incredible periods in history for fashion.  As hard a question this is to answer, my reply is always “the art deco period of the twenties and thirties”.  The fashion, architecture and art of this time period are all so glamorous. I just can’t get enough!

Translating my love for this era into weddings is seamless.  Check out my inspiration board over on The Collection Event Studio today for all the feathers, sequins, and geometric goodness!  They are celebrating all things Art Deco all week long, and I absolutely loved being a part of it.

I am so happy that this era has already made quite the comeback in jewelry.  Here are my current favorite art deco inspired earrings to complete your twenties wedding look.   After writing this post I probably need a pair to wear to a wedding next weekend.  Don’t you think?

Heading to New York!

This weekend we are headed to New York to attend the wedding of two of our favorite people!  I can't wait to see all of our friends and family as well as getting reaquainted with one of my favorite cities.  Above is a photo of me on my wedding day in NYC and I can't wait to make more memories in the big apple this weekend.  Don't worry, I'm sure there is a blog post about this wedding in the near future.  Speaking of blogging, check out my guest post today over at The Collection Event Studio.  It's chock full of inspiration for a watercolor wedding, as well as my favorite watercolor printed dresses.  Head on over and enjoy.  Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Just like Beyonce said.... I can see your Halo (halo..halo..haloooo)

Left Halo, Right Halo

Let's talk about you bohemian brides today shall we?  You are getting married in an abandoned barn, wearing a peach colored gown and don't care if you have something blue.  While I do love a good tradition, I also get SO excited when a bride like you comes waltzing into my life.  Let me guess, you aren't really a veil woman either?  I definitely am a believer that all brides do not need to wear a veil.  Don't get me wrong...  On the right lady, a veil is the piece de resistance!  But for as many brides as I have seen cry happy tears of joy when a veil is placed upon their head, I have seen just as many feel weird, uncomfortable and completely not themselves.  So today I want to show you an alternative.  Halos.  Halos come in all different materials and give an ethereal quality without the long train.  Big or small, they always make a statement.  They also bring an air of romance similar to a veil without the convention.  And while there is nothing wrong with wanting to wear a veil, there is also nothing wrong with not wearing one either.  So I am here to set you free from tradition, do whatever you please!  Veil or no veil you are still going to be an insanely gorgeous bride.  Promise!
